Why Weight Matters — Our Philosophy on Gold Jewellery

There is a race happening in the fine jewellery industry. Designers competing to make gold thinner, lighter, more delicate — jewellery so fine it barely registers on the skin.

We went the other way.

What Weight Tells You

When you hold a piece of Tatreez jewellery for the first time, you will feel the difference immediately. There is a substance to it — a presence in the hand, a weight on the wrist or finger that tells you something real is there.

This is intentional. Weight in gold jewellery is not incidental — it is a direct reflection of the amount of precious metal in the piece. A heavier piece contains more gold. More gold means more value, more durability, and a more commanding presence when worn.

In Gulf jewellery culture, this is understood instinctively. Gold is not just ornament — it is substance. It is value you can feel.

The Industry Went Thin. We Disagreed.

The trend toward ultra-thin, delicate gold jewellery was driven largely by economics — less gold means lower production costs, which means higher margins. Pieces that look like fine jewellery but contain a fraction of the metal.

We believe jewellery that carries this much cultural weight deserves to have actual weight. The Moon of Bethlehem motif was stitched in gold and silver thread by women for whom embroidery was a serious, significant act. To render it in jewellery so light you forget you're wearing it felt like a disservice to the tradition.

Our Gold Plated Pieces

Even our 18k Gold Plated pieces — built on a 925 sterling silver base with a palladium bonding layer — are crafted heavier than industry standard. The sterling silver base is not chosen merely as a substrate. It is a precious metal foundation that gives the piece genuine weight and structure, so the gold finish sits on something worthy of it.

Three layers of precious metal — silver, palladium, gold — in every plated piece. Nothing cheap underneath.

Our Solid Gold Pieces

Our solid 18k gold pieces are cast heavier than most comparable fine jewellery on the market. When you wear one, you know it is there. On your finger, on your wrist, at your chest — there is a presence that lighter jewellery simply cannot achieve.

This is what we believe gold should feel like. Not barely-there. Present.

Wear something you can feel. Wear something that means something. Wear Tatreez.
